MANL COVID-19 Update

on .

Hello MANL members,

It is my hope that you are all safe and adhering to the government recommendations in this time of crisis. At this point in Newfoundland and Labrador ALL museums are closed under the medical state of emergency order. MANL staff have been working diligently from our homes to keep our virtual office open. It is important to keep our information to the facts and provide sound professional pertinent material to our members.

Our social media feeds are still active, and we have been bringing virtual museum information to our followers. We encourage everyone to post on the MANL Facebook page and encourage you to share your stories. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns during this time.

Here a several updates for you:

  • We have been in contact with the department of Tourism Culture Industry and Innovation and are pleased to report that the department will be forwarding 2020-2021 CEDP funding to those who received funding last year. The department is in the process of completing last year's payments and issuing payments for the 2020-2021 fiscal-year. Thank you to Minister Bernard Davis and his staff for their quick response support the heritage sector. For more information follow this link.
  • On March 26th I meet with the Canadian Museum Association and the Provincial and Territorial Museum Associations (PTMA) from across the country on several topics including our concerns for COVID-19. Collectively we are preparing to pass our concerns for the museum sector along to The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage in early April. One of our goals is to ensure museums are included in the Canadian government relief package. For more information on the Government of Canada and Covid-19 visit this link
  • We have important links below for museums including CCI's recommendations for the closure of museums during the Covid-19 crisis. CCI responded quickly with these recommendation and we advise that you follow their expert advice in this matter. Visit
  • Our friends at the BC Museum Association were kind enough to offer free attendance to a museum webinar on exploring digital outreach. Registration information is provided at this link

Please stay safe and remember we are here for you during this time, contact us if you have any concerns.
