MANL COVID-19 Update
Important Funding Announcement
& COVID-19 Information for Museums

Good Afternoon,

MANL has been meeting with key stakeholders to advocate and collaborate for our sector. This week we worked with the TCII committee on requirements for museums reopening. The work has been approved by the government and is now published on the COVID 19 website for the June 8th Alert Level 3 reopening date. The information can be found here. Please note the links in the document and adhere to this government mandated guidelines when you open your museums and heritage sites.

Yesterday, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation released the eligibility guidelines for the 25 million Tourism and Hospitality Support Program. The information can be found here.

The funding will be tied to our members Cultural Economic Development Program operational support funding. Here are some of the areas where museums may fit: attractions, events and retail operators. I encourage you to read the entire document and apply based on where your organization fits:

  • Not-for-profit organizations that are selling tourism experience attractions and registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Operator Portal as of March 16, 2020 are eligible. Those that have accessed operational support from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation’s (TCII) Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) or other provincial government operational grants are not eligible unless there is a difference between the amount issued under CEDP/other operational grants and the amount eligible under the Tourism and Hospitality Support Program. Consideration will be given for the amount difference if applicable.
  • Private or non-profit gift and craft shops as well as artist studios and galleries that are primarily operating in the tourism industry, and registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Operator Portal as at March 16, 2020, are eligible.
  • Not-for-profit events that attract non-resident visitors to the region and are registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Operator Portal as at March 16, 2020, are eligible. Those that have accessed operational support from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation’s Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) or other provincial government operational grants are not eligible unless there is a difference between the amount issued under CEDP/other operational grants and the amount eligible under the Tourism and Hospitality Support Program. Consideration will be given for the amount difference if applicable.
  • Events that are designed to mainly attract local community audiences are not eligible.

We continue to work from our homes keeping our new virtual office open. We will provide updates to our members when new information is available. Our social media feeds are active, and we have been bringing museum information to our followers. Please join our new MANL Membership Facebook Group.  There have been some great discussion there.

Below you will find our ever growing list of previous announcements for your quick reference. We hope that you are all safe and adhering to the government recommendations at this time. Remember we are here for you during this time, contact us if you have any concerns. For all MANL updates, please visit our COVID-19 Updates Page.
