Introduction to Museum Governance & Management
A core course for MANL’s Museum Studies Certificate Program
Date: June 26-27, 2019; 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $130 for MANL members, $155 for non-members
Instructor: Ken Flynn, Executive Director, Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
This two day workshop provides a general introduction to the governance and management of museums and is designed for museum staff and volunteers. Participants will explore the definition of museums, their function in society, the responsibilities of public trust and the development of governing and operational policies. This course will also provide an introduction to managing resources in museums including financial, human, physical plant, information and creating museum policies.
Public Programming for Museums—An Introduction

This one-day workshop will provide an introduction to developing public programming in museums, heritage organizations and galleries. Topics will include: a brief overview of museum education, learning theories and learning styles; the role of interpretation policy development in public programs; audience identification; program planning tips; program promotion and evaluation; and the role of interpretation and public programming in engaging our communities.
